-1. 4 Paws for Ability
4 Paws for Ability enriches the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing quality, task-trained service dogs. The independence these service dogs provide to their owners is remarkable. Moreover, the parents of the children that have these service dogs have the ability to rest easy knowing their children are being watched and cared for at all times. Veterans from recent conflicts who’ve lost the use of their limbs or their hearing while in active combat are also able to gain more independence because of the service dogs.
Their mission is to place quality service dogs with children with disabilities and veterans who have lost use of limbs or hearing; help with animal rescue, and educate the public regarding use of service dogs in public places.
Ben was the first 4 Paws service dog for Karen Shirk, founder of 4 Paws. She is alive today because of him. In a nutshell, Karen was home after open-heart surgery when a deadly mix of medications left her barely conscious and fighting for life. The phone rang and rang. Ben picked it up and began to bark. The caller, Karen's dad, called 911 and she was rushed to the hospital where they were able to revive her.
If you're passionate about service dogs and the miracles they perform for children and their families, 4 Paws is a great organization to support!
